My first shot from RSBP today is of a stonechat - as was the second
Sitting on a post was one of the birds of prey we saw that day - which were summed up as a kestrel, a female marsh harrier and something very big, black backed and pale headed.
My final shot from RSPB is of a show pigeon....showing off by strutting along the roof.
Next up, a couple of shots from my back yard, taken from my bedroom window of a pair of collared doves that seem to be inhabiting the area recently.
It has been a while sine any have been regular everyday visitor-residents so this makes me happy.
Liz and I went to Wakehurst and watched the small birds feed in the Himalayan Glade. There were coaltits...
...and marsh tits. These are often difficult to identify - but seeing both at once brought out the differences. The white stripe t the back of the head going upwards is one and a slight plummier plumage the other.
HERE is another id guide article from RSPB
It's nice that the collard doves have come back. Have they built a nest right in your yard?
ReplyDeleteno idea.....but with all the trauma in the trees, its unlikely - also its only just spring....
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, I hope the tree trauma didn't scare any of the other birds away.
ReplyDeleteonly temporarily....most are back, but as seasons change they change anyway, so its hard to tell.
